Secondary Campus | Term 3 Update

‘This term has been a true showcase of the unique opportunities and collaborative spirit that define CYS.’

As Term 3 draws to a close, I’m proud to share an overview of another incredibly busy and successful period for our secondary students here at Central Yorke School. The term has been filled with remarkable achievements, hands-on learning experiences, and opportunities for leadership and personal growth.

Passion Projects

In July we launched Secondary Passion Projects, giving students time each Friday to explore interests such as fashion design, travel, and golf. The projects have encouraged creativity, teamwork, and confidence, and it has been inspiring to see the progress students have made.

Cultural Perspectives

Year 7/8 and Year 11 Integrated Studies classes visited Yitpi Yartapuultiku, a new Aboriginal Cultural Destination in Port Adelaide. Guided by Willis, students explored cultural art, traditions, and stories of the land, deepening their understanding of Aboriginal history and heritage.

Outdoor Education

Students joined Ardrossan Area School for a bushwalking camp at Mambray Creek, tackling a 26km trek with resilience and teamwork. Their determination and support for each other made it a memorable and rewarding challenge.

Agriculture

Agriculture students shone at both the Copper Coast Show and the Royal Adelaide Show, achieving awards in handler heats and on hoof and hook competitions. Their success reflects hard work, adaptability, and passion for the field.

Subject Counselling and Student Pathways

This term, subject counselling gave our students the chance to select their subjects for 2026. This process, supported by staff, helps ensure students choose pathways aligned with their goals and interests. VET enrolments are now well underway, opening up vocational opportunities for students keen to pursue industry-specific skills.

Learning Expeditions

The Year 9/10 Learning Expedition focused on democracy and persuasive texts, culminating in a Mayor of Maitland election. Students developed policies, campaigns, and promotional materials, applying curriculum knowledge in an authentic and engaging way.

Looking Ahead

This term has been a true showcase of the unique opportunities and collaborative spirit that define Central Yorke School. I’m incredibly proud of what our students have achieved and grateful to our dedicated staff for supporting them every step of the way. Here’s to continued success as we move into Term 4 and beyond.
