Year 7-10 Passion Projects

Culinary Adventures in Indonesia

Year 9/10 students in Miss Parker’s passion project explored Indonesian cuisine, preparing satay chicken, handmade spring rolls and banana fritters. When a few spring rolls opened during frying, the group adapted by making cold rolls, showing problem-solving and resilience.

Miss Parker prepared banana fritters with ice-cream, which provided a sweet conclusion to the meal. Students from Miss Nixon’s Garden group were invited to join the feast, turning the session into a collaborative celebration of learning.

The activity gave students practical cooking skills while highlighting teamwork and cultural appreciation. It was also a chance to connect across groups and celebrate the value of food in bringing people together. The end result was a delicious success.

Congratulations to Telika, Anabel, Shannon and Miss Parker for their efforts!

Mini Golf Excursion

Prue’s Passion Project group visited Kadina Mini Golf to apply classroom learning in a practical setting. Students explored angles, control, and precision while developing patience and focus. (photos #5, 6) The excursion provided a fun but purposeful opportunity to combine physical activity with problem-solving. It also encouraged teamwork, as students supported and encouraged each other throughout the day. Experiences like these strengthen the connection between academic learning and real-world applications while also giving students the chance to share a positive group experience beyond the classroom.

Community Garden

Miss Nixon’s Community Garden Passion Group focused on planting seeds, learning about soil, growth, and sustainability. The project continues to encourage creativity, curiosity, and teamwork, while highlighting the importance of practical experiences in student learning.
