Principal’s Term 2 Update

It has been a great start to the Term with lots of exciting learning opportunities for both staff and students.

Mothers’ Day

A definite highlight for me was the Mother’s Day event which saw a large number of mums, nannas, aunties and important ladies coming into our school to enjoy a paint and sip event.

Our special guests were treated to a coffee and morning tea which was provided by the CYS canteen and donations made by several staff members. It was so great to see our students share a painting activity and a delicious morning tea.

Thankyou to Chelsea, Michelle and everyone that was involved in putting the day together.

Learning Hub excursion

It was great to see our Learning Hub students out on their excursion last week as they attended the Copper Coast Leisure Centre “Abilities Unleashed” sports session, run by Variety.

From all reports the kids had a great day. I wish to thank all of the staff involved for making this happen. What a great opportunity for our kids!

Parliament visit

Last week senior students Rhys and Nicholas visited Parliament House alongside other student representatives from the Yorke Peninsula. It’s great to see our leaders being exposed to such a high level of leadership and what great representatives they both would have been.

Foodladder Summit win

At the recent Foodladder Summit. CYS took away the award for ‘Best News Story’. To support the nomination, Tim, Craig and Jaynelle put together a great little marketing clip that we can use in other endeavours as well.

CYS was just the 12th greenhouse that was built, around 2 years ago. Tracey Norman (Harvey Norman) who donated our greenhouse was present and covered the costs for Jaynelle to attend. Well done to everyone involved.

SYP Formal

The SYP formal was last Friday night, and I was so impressed with our students respect and maturity. They all looked fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the night.
We thank Ardrossan Area for all their organisation, Jaynelle as their homegroup teacher and Luke and Finn for making sure our students were all organised on our end.
These nights provide great memories for our students which they will look back on for years to come.

Playgroup

I have enjoyed popping in to Playgroup and seeing some of the fun and messy learning that has been happening. Alain has been providing some excellent activities for our youngest CYS community members and providing a safe and welcoming environment. It was so great to again meet the mums and dads there last week.

Work Experience

Recently Year 10 Work Experience and the Senior Wellbeing Trip went off without a hitch. It was so great to chat with the students on their return on Friday and hear about their amazing experiences in Adelaide. Trips like this are a lot of work but make such a huge impact on our kids. You could tell from the look on their faces and his enthusiasm that this trip had a huge impact on them. Well done to everyone involved.

Urumbula Garden Excursion

A few weeks ago the 4/5 class, SAASTA connect students and the Secondary Learning Hub students went to Pt Pirie to see the Urumbula garden.
This visit will tie into the regeneration project which will be happening down at Point Pearce and will provide students with an amazing example of a native bush garden. John Pirie have an amazing program which is student lead which will be a great example of what our students can achieve. Thankyou to Kath, Charlotte and everyone who helped organise and support the trip.

Uniform

Just a reminder that we take our uniform standards very seriously here at CYS. Please ensure that you are maintaining a high standard of uniform for all students. Please avoid sending students to school with large logos and ensure students are wearing appropriate footwear. Wearing a common and consistent uniform is pivotal in building school pride and a sense of identity amongst students.

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work so far. It has been a great start to the term, and I am looking forward to seeing even more great learning and experiences for our students going forward.

Warm regards,

Rob Jeffries
