From the Principal | February ’25

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 2025 school year! This year at Central Yorke School we are moving forward with an emphasis on Equity and Excellence.

What does this mean?

It means that in 2025 we are  committed to ensuring that every student reaches their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. CYS is a special place and we are so fortunate to have children from a wide reaching range of backgrounds and cultures. Every CYS student brings something unique to school each day in their ‘backpack’.  I believe that this uniqueness also brings a wide range of opportunities and challenges.

Why the Change?

We have listened to feedback from staff, students and from you, our wonderful CYS community. The focus for our 2025 Improvement plan will be on Equity and Excellence.  This will be done through a spotlight on critical and creative thinking and literacy as our general capabilities and taking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories as our cross curriculum priority.

Excellence is Individual

At Central Yorke School, we want to ensure that excellence is recognised as being subjective to where each student is as a learner. By focusing on individual growth, the school celebrates progress and learning improvement, ensuring that all students are supported to succeed on their own terms. The goal is not only to achieve high outcomes but to be the best at getting better, fostering a culture of continuous improvement for every learner.

Indigenous Perspectives

Supporting Indigenous students requires culturally responsive teaching, inclusive practices, and addressing historical and systemic inequities. Prioritising equity ensures that Indigenous students feel valued, culturally safe, and empowered to achieve their personal best academically and socially.

Students with Disabilities

Achieving excellence for students with disabilities necessitates tailored support and accessible learning environments. By focusing on equity, the school ensures that all students, regardless of their abilities, have the resources, opportunities, and interventions they need to thrive.

Workplace Pathways for Secondary Students

We recognise that in our local cohort that we need to place a strong emphasis on workplace pathways in the secondary area. These pathways provide students with practical skills, experience, and opportunities to transition confidently into further education, training, or employment.

Through this targeted approach, we will aim to address barriers to learning while fostering a culture where diversity is celebrated. By focusing on individual growth, celebrating learning improvement, and offering meaningful pathways, the school ensures that every student can achieve their best outcomes in an inclusive and supportive environment.

We look forward to working with you and your children this year.

Kind Regards,

Rob Jeffries | Principal
