SAPSASA Cricket

On Friday 15th of March, a team made up of year 5, 6, and 7 boys travelled to Port Victoria town oval to do battle with Maitland Lutheran School (MLS) for town bragging rights and ascension to the next round of SAPSASA Cricket. The campers parked around the oval awoke to a buzz as the excited group poured out of the bus creating a genuine stir of anticipation around the ground. MLS arrived soon after and the stage was set. It was game time.

Our Captain Tommy Linke won the toss and backed our bowling attack in sending MLS to the crease first. Tommy quickly made his stamp on the game taking a wicket with his fifth bowl of the game and the field erupted. Jett Hasting joined the bowling attack and combined well with Brody Davies but MLS settled. Sam Davey and William Bozdarovski also contributed to the attack while George Butler gave the team safe hands in Keeper. Dylan Chapman showed he had his eye in taking a huge grab in the out field as he ran back with the flight. Tyson McWaters, Hugh (Huge) Crawford and Brody Davies caused a stir in the field as their voice and accurate throwing put the pressure on. Barnaby Wheare put on a great display of batting unable to be bowled out and a solid effort from Zane Pollard and Benjamin Allen. The boys batted well but unfortunately went down to a well drilled Maitland Lutheran School team.

Regardless of the result, the boys had a great time together and put in 100% effort with their cricket. They held their heads high and did everything throughout the day with a smile on their faces. They showed respect and humility to their opponent and were thankful to all the helpers on the day. It was a pleasure to coach this group and to see first hand the pride and sportsmanship they showed while representing Central Yorke School. Well done boys!
