Year 8/9, nine a side football

On Tuesday 21st of May, Central Yorke School hosted a 9-Aside Football Competition for Year 8 and 9 Boys and Girls. CYS entered one male team and two female teams to compete against various schools across Yorke Peninsula.
The boys battled hard, but only could manage the one victory thanks to a 6-goal domination from the silky midfielder Kane Elliot-Karpany. The Year 8 Girl team, coached by School Captain Lynarha Newchurch, had a similar day managing the one win. However, the girls’ pride and team spirit remained high particularly when Annabelle Smart, battling with an injured leg, kicked a winning goal. The Year 9 girls team, self-proclaimed ‘The Maitland Mozzies’, were the best of the three CYS teams finishing in second place. Tammie Littlewood and Macy Poole were the primary goal scorers, with Sophie Baker, Georgia Hastings and Hilary Longstaff dominating the possession count. The main highlights were the twin towers in defence, Sophie Heinrich and Lily Dyett, stopping multiple goals, leading the team to victory.
I would like to give a huge thankyou to Lynarha Newchurch and Will Baker for their efforts on the day. It was fantastic to see the Year 8 and 9 cohort of CYS come together and represent the school as a unified team.
