In Week 9 of Term 3, the Year 9 HASS class went on an excursion to Adelaide to expand upon our knowledge of Australian civics and citizenship. Students were shown how to catch public transport into and out of the city which is an important life skill that will aid them in the future! We then visited the War memorials on North Terrace and paid our respects to the soldiers who fought during the World Wars. We were then lucky enough to be offered a private tour of the Parliament of South Australia by Member for Narungga, Fraser Ellis.
Mr Ellis walked us through the different chambers in Parliament house and spoke to us about his role in politics. He spoke to us about our federal and state government, but most importantly, he discussed the work that he does on the Yorke Peninsula and within our local communities. This was an excellent opportunity for students to connect with a local parliamentarian and ask questions relating to the content that we have been discussing in our HASS classes.
Thank you, Mr Ellis, for taking the time to give us a tour and answer any of our questions!
