Understanding ANZAC Day

It was our first day back at school on Monday and we all had so much to share about our holiday adventures! A very special day fell in the holidays and we wanted to ensure that our students are aware of the significance of it. ANZAC Day was on Thursday the 25th of April and many of our children attended a Dawn Service with their families.

As a class we spoke about what they saw and what it meant. We learned about the ANZACs, the significance of laying a wreath and what the flowers represented.

Then we too went down to visit the Maitland War Memorial to pay our respects to the soldiers both past and present who have served for our freedom.
We finished the day with our own representation of a wreath. The students worked together to roll out, decorate, bake and eat our very own cookie creation.
