The Year 8/9 nine-a-side football competition was held at Maitland on Wednesday the 9th of September in a slightly modified version in that there were combined 8/9 boys teams this year instead of separate year levels.
The CYS boys team started well under coach Xenos defeating Minlaton 25 – 17 and then they continued on defeating Moonta 46 – 0 and MLS(2) 108 – 6 setting up a Grand Final appearance against MLS1. It was a fast-paced game with both sides going hard for the ball. Eventually CYS ended up victors 20 – 16.
The CYS girl’s team battled hard under coaches Sophie B and Georgia but were outclassed by Minlaton 52 – 6 in the first game. After a positive start with the wind in their second game CYS went into half tie with a narrow lead but unfortunately were overrun by Moonta finishing 25 – 7 down.
This set up a battle between CYS and MLS once again. With the wind behind them CYS kicked straight and managed to put together a few goals but again were overrun in the second half by MLS with the final score being 42 – 25.
