Edithburgh Vietnam War Memorial Walk Opening

In Week 4, SRC members and the Year 9-10 class attended the Opening Ceremony of the Vietnam War Memorial Walk in Edithburgh. This was an incredibly significant event for many members of the local community, especially veterans of the war and their family members who were in attendance.

Campaigning for Change

This experience allowed our SRC team to proudly represent Central Yorke School and see first-hand the impact that campaigning for change and speaking up can have on the community. This was also an incredibly important moment for the Year 9-10 class who will soon be undertaking a project on the Vietnam War. In collaboration with the council and local war veterans, our students will be creating educational resources on the Vietnam War to be shared along the walk via QR codes. We hope this will help inform and engage future visitors with the history and significance of the site.

Helicopter highlight

The main highlight of the day was seeing a Huey helicopter in action as it circled above before landing on the Edithburgh golf course in front of us all. Our students were even lucky enough to be able to sit inside the helicopter!

Year 11 SRC member, Rhys Heinrich, was fortunate enough to be invited to the VIP lunch after the opening ceremony where he met Sir Peter Cosgrove – former Governor General of Australia.
