The Year 9/10 students completed their study of Australian politics with a mock election for Mayor of Maitland.
After classroom learning and an excursion to Adelaide, students designed campaigns that included policies, posters, pamphlets, and videos.
On election day, they presented their ideas and engaged the school community in voting.
Ben was elected Mayor, with his policy of new school beanies proving most popular. He invited peers to vote on the final design, showing inclusive leadership.
Local MP Fraser Ellis attended, adding further meaning to the event. The activity provided insight into democracy while developing public speaking, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
