Civics Award win for Rhys Heinrich

Congratulations to CYS student Rhys Heinrich, for being chosen as an inaugural awardee of the 2019 Governor’s Civic Awards for Schools. Rhys’s competition essay on “Why is it important for young people to know about the establishment and early years of the South Australian colony?” was praised as ‘a wonderful achievement’.

Rhys attended the Proclamation Ceremony at the Old Gum Tree on December 28 where the Governor acknowledged all the awardees in his speech and met with them after. Rhys will be presented to  His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le at a reception in February at Government House where he will receive his official certificate and medallion.

The Governor’s Civics Awards for Schools provide the opportunity for young South Australians to develop their understanding of the role citizenship plays in a multicultural and democratic society and were open to all schools within the Department for Education, Catholic Education and Independent Schools systems.
