Point Pearce News – Week 3

We’ve had a big start to 2021! First of all, I’d like to welcome some new staff members to the Point Pearce Campus. Sophie Parker will be working in the Kindy on Tuesdays until Week 8 while Belinda Chapman is joining the Kindy to work one on one with a student. Both are real assets to our team.
We would also like to welcome Maddy Woodforde to Point Pearce. Maddy was a Year 5/6 teacher at CYS Maitland last year and she will be working in the R-2 classroom on Mondays and Tuesdays for Term 1 while I step into Dave Love’s Head of Campus role. Dave is on leave until Term 2. Maddy already has good relationships with our families and many of the students and we feel very lucky to have her. Deb Nye, who already works in the R-2 class Monday to Wednesday, will extend her time to work Thursdays and Fridays as the class teacher and I will be in the classroom on Wednesdays.

Special Programs

We have had a fantastic start to the year with great attendance and a high level of enthusiasm from our students. The students are currently enjoying a week of swimming and some exciting programs are scheduled to be implemented in the classroom over the coming term.

Oral Program

We are working with DfE Speech Therapist on an Oral Narrative Intervention Program at a class and small group level as part of our Literacy program. Oral language is a key focus area for us and this program will provide a solid foundation for reading and writing.

Vegie Fun Program

We have 2 dietetic students coming to deliver a program called Vegie Fun for Everyone also in the R-2 class. This will be once a week and our students will learn all about different types of vegetables, create some characters from vegetables and take home a recipe card with a healthy vegetable recipe and a small pack of food for families to try at home.

We are really looking forward to a term filled with fun and learning.
