Passion Projects

Secondary students have begun their Passion Projects program, an exciting initiative across South Australian schools that gives students voice and choice in their learning. Passion Projects allow students to explore their interests, build real-world skills and learn in fun, hands-on ways. This semester, students have chosen from a wide range of pathways, including:

  • Eden Caputo – Scrap to Style
  • Charlotte Nixon – Community Garden
  • Ruby Parker – Travel Guides
  • Mitchell Lally – School of Rock Band
  • Prue Brind – Resilience in Golf

Students were enthusiastic as they began their first sessions and the school community looks forward to following their progress.

Scrap to Style: Fashion with a Purpose

As part of Miss Caputo’s Scrap to Style group, students visited Maitland’s two Op Shops to collect preloved clothing and fabrics. They will now create mood boards, design their own fashion collections and later in the year bring their favourite pieces to life using sewing machines. This project is already sparking creativity and imagination, as students re-imagine how recycled materials can be turned into wearable fashion.

Travel Guides – A Taste of Greece

The Travel Guides group recently explored the culture of Greece by preparing traditional lukoumades — fluffy Greek donuts. Students mixed and fried the batter from scratch, experimenting with toppings such as cinnamon sugar, Nutella and honey-cinnamon. The activity required patience and persistence to perfect the recipe, but the end result was a delicious success. Congratulations to Telika, Anabel, Shannon and Miss Parker for their efforts.
