From the Principal | June Update

As we wrap up another busy term at Central Yorke School, it’s the perfect time to reflect on just how much our students, staff and community have achieved together.

This term our students have had countless opportunities to stretch their learning and connect with our wider community. Our Year 10 students gained real-world skills and confidence through the Work Experience Camp with 43 students experiencing different industries, tackling an Amazing Race through the city and showing off their talents at the YPSA Cook-Off. Thank you to Prue for leading this program and to Ruby and Luke for supporting every step of the way.

Our Learning on Country students made us all proud with their work on the Osprey Nest installation. Seeing the huge nests they built airlifted by helicopter along our coastline was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one that speaks to the importance of hands-on, purposeful learning.

We also saw our secondary students getting out into the community, chatting with local business owners and exploring career pathways during our Careers Walk. Eden and her Year 7/8 class extended this learning with a Careers Morning Tea inviting special guests to share their journeys — a fantastic way to inspire students about what their futures could hold.

Meanwhile our SAASTA team shone once again at the Power Cup. Congratulations to our staff Chelsea, Daniel, Jack and Tshara for leading such a successful week. Our girls’ team took home the SAASTA Cup and Mia W’s winning polo design was worn by over 700 participants — what an achievement. On top of that our students won the MAC Road Safety Ad Competition with their work broadcast on the big screen at the Port Adelaide game.

Our students’ creativity was on show too with outstanding ANZAC Day artwork recognised in multiple categories. Well done to Amarli, Katrina, Milly and Sarah Atkins’ class and thank you to all the teachers who supported students in creating such thoughtful work.

Family events like our Mother’s Day paint-and-sip were a highlight this term bringing mums, grandmas and special people together to share in our students’ learning. A huge thank you to Chelsea for organising this event so beautifully and to Michelle, Mel and our Front Office team for making everyone feel so welcome with another outstanding morning tea.
