Building Strong Foundations in the Middle Years
SAASTA Connect is a middle years program for Aboriginal students in Years 7, 8 and 9 that encourages positive participation in school through cultural, leadership, literacy and sporting activities. The program helps students build confidence, strengthen identity and prepare for future pathways into senior secondary education and the senior SAASTA Academy.
Culture, Leadership and Learning
The curriculum is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and focuses on identity, language, culture and history. Learning experiences are designed to help students connect classroom learning to their own lives, communities and future goals, supporting greater engagement, achievement and school attendance.
Students participate in culturally appropriate learning activities that promote leadership, healthy living, literacy and numeracy skills, while strengthening understanding of culture and identity.
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
Students who demonstrate strong attendance, behaviour and participation may be invited to attend statewide events and activities such as the Winter Carnival and the Power SAASTA Connect Cup. These experiences provide opportunities for teamwork, leadership development and connection with other Aboriginal students from across South Australia.
