A Celebration of Storytelling, Costumes and Creativity
Central Yorke School was alive with imagination and colour for this year’s Book Week celebrations. With creative classroom themes, character costumes and a whole-school assembly, the day brought students, staff and families together to share books, reading and storytelling.
Prepping for a Magical Day
In the weeks leading up to Book Week, classrooms were transformed into immersive displays inspired by children’s books. Themes included:
- Learning Hub: Everything You Wanted to Know About the Tooth Fairy and Some Things You Didn’t
- R/1: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
- Year 1/2: Rumble in the Jungle
- Year 2/3: Sally’s Great Balloon Adventure
- Year 4/5: Dr Seuss
- Year 6: Under the Sea
Special guest judge Rosalie Cook visited on Tuesday morning and despite a very strong field of competitors, chose Miss Smart’s Year 6 class with their ‘Under the Sea’ themed room as the winner..
Assembly, Parade & Performances
Families visited classrooms before heading to the PAC for a 9:40am start to the assembly. Students were seated in designated areas, with younger classes near the entrance and older groups opposite. The Book Week Parade followed a taped path across the stage and around the PAC, giving every student a chance to shine in front of our audience. At the assembly, each class presented a story:
Learning Hub: Everything You Wanted to Know About the Tooth Fairy and Some Things You Didn’t
- R/1: One Little Dung Beetle
- 1/2: The Wobbly Bike
- 2/3: Don’t Worry Felix
- 4/5: How to Move a Zoo
- Year 6: A Teaspoon of Light
After the assembly, families enjoyed a whimsical ‘Wonderland’ tea party under the coverway, set up by Michelle and her team. Thanks also to Maddi for preparing complimentary coffees for our visiting grandparents — a thoughtful touch that was very much appreciated.
