The YP Concert Band students travelled to Balaklava on Friday 1 August for the annual Balaklava Eisteddfod.
The Eisteddfod attracts hundreds of choirs, vocal ensembles, concert bands, rock bands, community orchestras and soloists from across northern SA and metropolitan Adelaide. CYS has been involved in the Eisteddfod for 22 years.
Senior Vocal Ensemble
The senior vocal group competed against a strong field of choirs in the Vocal Ensemble Section which was hosted at the Balaklava Church of Christ.
The group didn’t place but the students were praised by the judge as a ‘vibrant group, very well prepared and confidently performed.’
Concert Band
The Concert Band performed in the Open Band Division held at the Horizon Centre. The band won first place with outstanding performances of a medley of songs from the Barbie Movie and a selection of songs made famous by Glen Miller.
The judge praised the band’s phrasing and accurate rhythm work and the ‘good balance and blend’. He also wrote that he liked the band’s uniforms!
