This year, Central Yorke School implemented the Playberry Laser literacy program in all primary classes. This structured approach uses synthetic phonics to explicitly teach reading and spelling. Students learn how letters and sounds work together, helping them build the skills needed to read and spell fluently and accurately.
The program uses multisensory learning, meaning students see, say, hear and do activities as they learn. Delivered daily as a routine-based program, students practise spelling rules, read new words and sentences, and discover new vocabulary every day.
We are very proud of our students and how well they have settled into the routines and classroom expectations. Already, we are seeing increased confidence in independent writing, regular use of spelling rules, and pleasing improvements in handwriting. Check out some of our work from this week!
