Families explored student learning across CYS at the school’s Open Day.
Central Yorke School welcomed families and community members to its Open Day, providing an opportunity to visit classrooms, explore student projects and celebrate learning from across the school.
The afternoon began with a shared barbecue lunch before visitors moved through a wide range of primary, secondary and specialist learning spaces. Displays, demonstrations and interactive activities showcased work from across the curriculum, including Agriculture, Playberry and classroom-based Learning Expeditions.
Visitors received a Passport to CYS and a school map from SRC members at the gates. The passport encouraged families to explore different areas of the school, including primary and secondary classrooms, specialist learning spaces and feature displays. Completed passports were entered into a prize draw announced during the whole-school assembly.
Each showcase included information about the learning behind the work on display. Presentations, handouts, digital displays and student work samples helped families understand the learning intentions, skills and knowledge developed throughout the semester.
Among the many displays were portraits, biographies, creative projects and curriculum-based experiences developed by students across different year levels. Visitors were also able to explore work connected with Agriculture, international learning opportunities and other projects taking place across the school.
Student Portfolios of Learning provided families with further insight into individual growth, progress and achievement. These portfolios allowed students to share their learning journeys and reflect on the work they had completed across the semester.
The Open Day concluded with a whole-school assembly and prize draw, bringing students, staff, families and visitors together to celebrate the afternoon.
The event highlighted the creativity, engagement and achievements of students while giving families and community members a deeper understanding of contemporary learning at Central Yorke School. It also provided an opportunity for students to share their work with a wider audience and take pride in their progress.
