In Week 4, our SAASTA Academy travelled to Adelaide to participate in the annual Santos Aboriginal Power Cup. This event is the pinnacle of the SAASTA program, with students working tirelessly throughout the year to prepare for the opportunity to represent themselves, their schools, their academy, and their communities with pride.
Our students represented the Central Yorke Academy with distinction, demonstrating commitment, respect, and teamwork throughout the week. They achieved some fantastic results on the football field, while also participating in a range of valuable cultural and educational experiences.
Career Expo
Students attended a Careers Expo, learnt a Cultural Dance routine, and participated in Cultural Day at Yitpi Yartapuultiku, providing opportunities to strengthen connections to culture and engage with other First Nations students from across the state.
Curtain raiser
The Central Yorke Academy was incredibly fortunate to have both our boys’ and girls’ teams selected as grand finalists in their respective competitions. This achievement provided students with the opportunity to play on Adelaide Oval as a curtain raiser to the AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round match between Port Adelaide Football Club and Carlton Football Club.
This was an incredible experience and a well-deserved reward for the dedication our students have shown not only on the football field, but also in their classrooms, at their home schools, and throughout their involvement in the SAASTA program.
Grand finals time
The girls’ team competed in a tightly contested grand final, while the boys’ team was successful in claiming victory in their final. Regardless of the results, every student should feel incredibly proud of their achievements, commitment, and the way they represented the Central Yorke Academy community.
A special thank you must go to Tshara and Kelly for their ongoing support, encouragement, and commitment throughout the camp. Their contribution played an important role in making this experience such a success for our students.
