It is with great pleasure that I announce that Central Yorke will be a specialist football academy for our senior school students from 2020 onwards.
We have partnered with the SANFL, Woodville/West Torrens, Port Power and the YPFL to create this initiative. As a result CYS will be offering 25 spaces for a male team and a female team to undertake the study and practical components of AFL as part of their curriculum.
The curriculum will consist of Level 1 Coaching, Umpiring and Trainers courses as well as AFL in the media, enhancements in sport and tactical awareness of the game.
The practical component will be team based with the academy competing against other teams, such as SAASTA, Eagles underage and other school sides. Students will be provided opportunities and get coaching from some of our best footballers from the Eagles and Power sides.
Depending on the success next year we are also looking to expand this to a specialist program for Years 8-12. This is a really exciting opportunity and one that we think will only benefit our school, community and greater region. More information will be coming out to students at our SACE nights and there are also posters at the local football clubs.
