A Night of Music

On Wednesday August 14, CYS hosted over eighty Immanuel College music students for combined band and choir workshops and a full evening concert. On arrival, the visitors split into three groups, with their string section heading to the Maitland Retirement Village, the choristers to the school activities room and the band members to the Performing Arts Centre.

The Immanuel musicians were joined by the YP Combined Schools Band and conductors from both schools put the students through their paces with warm up exercises and rehearsal of the songs that would be featured in the evening concert. The singers were also being put through their paces, and with the addition of Maitland Lutheran School students, the activities room was bursting at the seams!

A fabulous evening meal was catered for by the Parents and Friends in the Home Ec room. This proved very popular and warranted a special mention at the evening concert!

The PAC was full for the combined ‘Night of Music’ with a seventy piece concert band lifting the ceiling with Fantasia and ‘September’.

The Immanuel band played some solo pieces then the string group entertained with a selection of classical pieces. THE CYS Vocal Ensemble performed next, to vigorous applause with the evening rounded off with the beautiful sounds of the combined choirs.

The evening was a great opportunity for over 130 students from Adelaide and across the YP to come together and make music for an appreciative audience.
