Year 7/8 Village Project (Week 8)

Year 7/8 students have continued to make strong progress on their Village Portrait Project.

Students recently began developing their portraits with the support of local artist Steve Renfrey. Through a series of workshops, students explored the fundamentals of portrait drawing, including proportions, shadows and highlights, using reference photographs to create realistic and expressive artworks.

Students also supported residents during the Village’s Everybody Belongs Walk, providing an opportunity to apply their learning about accessibility and reflect on how accessible the local community is for all people.

Later in the week, students returned to the Village to continue building connections with residents and learn more about their life stories. These conversations will help inform both the final artworks and accompanying written pieces.

The project has provided opportunities for students to develop artistic skills while strengthening community connections and exploring themes of accessibility, belonging and inclusion. The completed portraits will be showcased at the school’s Open Day in Week 10.
