Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week was from May 25th to June 2nd.

The theme for this year’s NRW is ‘In this together’. I would like to thank all staff involved in facilitating learning activities around Aboriginal Culture. Each year National Reconciliation Week (NRW) celebrates the rich culture and history of the First Australians. It is the ideal time for everyone to join the reconciliation conversation and to think about how we can help turn around the disadvantage experienced by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The ’67 referendum made history as Australians voted overwhelmingly to amend the constitution to include Aboriginal people in the census and allow the Commonwealth to create laws for them. It was considered a triumph of the human spirit that continues to inspire generations of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people alike.

This year we had many activities happening, this includes small games such as Yulunga games, painting, mask creations, reading books such as ‘I am Australian Too’ and celebrating the movie ‘In my blood it runs’. It’s been really great to see a curriculum focus for NRW as opposed to an event.
