Celebrating Culture Through Storytelling

In Week 10, SAASTA and SAASTA Connect students had the opportunity to attend a special screening of Wild Dog Dreaming, followed by a workshop with Narungga artists Sonya Rankine and Jacob Boehme, two of the creative forces behind the project.

Students explored the story through movement, learning dance elements inspired by the garrdi (emu), and joined in singing songs from the short film, written by Sonya herself. It was a powerful and engaging way to connect with culture through music and dance.

After lunch, students from Years 3 to 12 attended a screening of the 2025 Nunga Screen – a vibrant program featuring independent films by First Nations storytellers. The selection included inspiring documentaries, compelling dramas and creative animations, highlighting the strength and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.

Special thanks to Molly Flanagan from Country Arts SA for supporting these valuable learning experiences. We look forward to continuing the partnership next term in the lead-up to the YP Grounded Art Festival.
