The Yorkes Ag Alliance students are well underway with preparations for an exciting Term 3 as they develop their cattle handling, management and showmanship skills ahead of the Copper Coast Show and the Royal Adelaide Show.
We are thrilled to introduce this year’s impressive team of stud steers. Joining the program are King George Bayview, a Shorthorn, and Sir Wilson Bayview, a Wagyu-cross Shorthorn, both generously donated by Chris Thompson. We are also grateful for the ongoing support of Amy Nankivell, who has once again donated a quality Murray Grey steer, Royal Basil Ashvell, and to big-time supporter Craig Bittner, whose Big Mike III Junella completes this year’s outstanding lineup.
Preparing four stud steers is a significant commitment, requiring countless hours of feeding, grooming, training and daily care. These experiences provide students with invaluable practical skills while developing responsibility, teamwork and confidence in working with livestock.
To further build their knowledge and skills, a small group of students attended the Jamestown Agricultural Education Day in Week 10. Students enjoyed a full day of hands-on learning, gaining valuable tips and techniques to improve their cattle preparation and showing skills ahead of the upcoming show season. It was an early start and a late finish, so congratulations to those students for making the most of this fantastic learning opportunity.
A sincere thank you goes to Teresa Robinson and Seth Matson for the many hours they dedicate behind the scenes to ensuring both the students and cattle are well prepared for the upcoming shows.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such generous breeders and a supportive local community who continue to invest in our students and agricultural education. Their contributions make opportunities like these possible, and we look forward to showcasing the hard work of our students in the show ring over the coming months.
