Our Year 9/10 Agriculture students achieved outstanding success at the Royal Adelaide Show, with Jmal the Boer goat taking out the prestigious Grand Champion Led Wether Goat title!
Congratulations to our Year 9/10 Agriculture students, who proudly represented Central Yorke School at the Royal Adelaide Show!
Eight students travelled to Adelaide on Tuesday 8 September to compete in the Led Wether Goat Competition, which attracted schools and breeders from across South Australia, with more than 320 goats competing.
Our students entered six Boer goats, with three achieving fantastic results:
- Jmal – 1st place in his category, led by Harrison.
- Stewy – 2nd place in his category, led by Katrina.
- Dih – 6th place in his category, led by Julian.
Jmal’s success didn’t stop there! After winning his weight class, he went on to compete against the other Lightweight Goat class winners and was awarded Champion Lightweight Goat.
This qualified him for the Champion of Champions final, where the best goat in the entire competition was selected. And he won that too, earning the title of Grand Champion Led Wether Goat for 2026!
This is an outstanding achievement and wonderful recognition of the hard work, commitment and animal husbandry skills our students have developed throughout the term.
A huge congratulations to all eight students involved. From feeding, weighing and grooming to haltering, leading and preparing the goats for competition, your dedication and teamwork have been fantastic to see.
A special thank you to Miss Prue for her expertise in helping students train and prepare the goats throughout the year, and for accompanying our students on the camp. Her guidance played an enormous part in achieving these incredible results.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Teresa for her time, effort and support throughout the term, and to Ms Townsend for sharing her knowledge, experience and guidance with our students, both in preparation for the competition and during the camp.
